Here’s a sobering reminder to always think about your target and beyond, even with archery equipment.
A story posted to the St. Paul Pioneer Press said police in southeastern Wisconsin are trying to piece together how a 7-year-old girl was shot in the back with an arrow.
Aryanna Schneeberg was walking down a street in Campbellsport, a village of about 2,000 people 16 miles southeast of Fond du Lac, Sunday afternoon with two or three friends when she was struck, the Pioneer Press reported. She was air-lifted to a hospital in Fond du Lac and then to Milwaukee Children’s Hospital, where surgeons removed the arrow, according to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s office. She was listed in stable condition Monday.
According to the report, Sheriff Mick Fink said investigators believe the shooting was accidental. They suspect the archer may have overshot a target in a tree or elsewhere, sending the arrow arcing toward the girl.
“It appears it was a stray arrow,” Fink said. “Bizarre is almost understating it.”
Investigators canvassed the area and confiscated a bow and arrows from a man in a residence along the arrow’s apparent trajectory, Fink said. They’ve asked state crime lab analysts to determine whether the bow fired the arrow that struck the girl.
