Kill More Antlerless Deer This Season?

Archery season for antlerless deer in a portion of Tennessee would be expanded for the upcoming season, according to a proposal by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

The agency made its recommendations at its second meeting of the year of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission, which hears public input and helps the state agency. Only a few changes were recommended for the upcoming season.

TWRA recommended expanding the antlerless archery season bag limit in Deer Management Unit B to four per season. It also proposed allowing the Unit B counties the chance to kill one antlerless deer during the 14-day muzzleloader season. Non-quota antlerless gun hunts were added in Campbell, Jackson, Morgan, and Scott counties.

Unit B is the eastern portion of the state and the most mountainous, with the southern portion of the rugged Appalachian Range.

A special red deer hunt begun last season in one county was proposed to run concurrently with the whitetail season this year
