This year’s recipient of the Joe Hamilton Lifetime Achievement Award is Dr. Karl V. Miller. A Charter Life Member of QDMA, Karl is a professor of wildlife ecology and management at the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, where he has served as thesis advisor for over 43 Master of Science students and as dissertation advisor for 14 PhD students. One of the nation’s foremost white-tailed deer researchers, Karl has published more than 135 peer reviewed publications, 20 book chapters, 55 technical reports, 30 proceeding articles and five books.
“As more landowners across the country take on the responsibility of managing their personal property for wildlife and habitat improvement, it is educators like Dr. Karl Miller who continually explore avenues to make it possible for the public to apply their research findings to on-the-ground management practices,” said Joe Hamilton. “Karl has been an integral part of QDMA’s growth through his educational efforts in popular press and television. It is without question that Dr. Karl Miller has had a significant impact on both game and non-game species and their habitats throughout the country.”
The winner of this award, named after QDMA’s founder, has dedicated his/her life and/or career to wildlife management in general, and deer management in particular. They have made a significant impact in deer management, deer research, deer hunting, or advancing the QDMA mission. The recipient exemplifies the highest level of ethics and integrity.
