Devin Solomon photographed this buck being chased by two pointers with tracking collars. We weren’t sure what was going on (and admitted as much in our original post) but Solomon has reached out to let us know what was happening.
“I don’t want to portray the idea that I’m out here encouraging dogs ripping deer apart. The dogs never even really touched the deer during this hunt. They were pack dogs from my understanding and do not know how to bay a deer. They just circled him the whole time while I was going to them.”
So, there you go.
Hunting deer and other game animals with hounds has a long, storied history in America. Societal changes have impacted some areas where hunting with hounds previously was allowed, but it still is a time-honored, legal, effective and fun method of hunting in some parts of the country.
