Want To Be An Oklahoma Game Warden?

Prospective employees of the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation can now take the agency’s standardized employment exam at one of several testing centers across the state throughout the year.

“Until now, the exam was hand-written and was only offered twice a year at set locations and times,” said Mikki Gutierrez, human resources coordinator for the Wildlife Department. “Now it’s being offered multiple times a year as a computer-based test at five locations across Oklahoma. Additionally, individuals can now take the test every 90 days rather than once a year.”

Completion of the open exam is the first step toward employment for those seeking to become game wardens, biologists, assistant hatchery managers, and fisheries and wildlife technicians for the Wildlife Department.

The exam is free, and participants must have photo identification upon check-in. Individuals may take the exam once every 90 days. Top scorers will be invited to submit an employment application. When a job opening becomes available, applicants will be selected from the test register for an interview.

Individuals planning to take the exam should have knowledge of fish and wildlife conservation; Oklahoma and federal wildlife laws and regulations (such as Titles 29 and 800); Oklahoma history and geography; wildlife, fish and environmental biology; environmental education and communications; and general journalism, photo journalism, technical writing and editing.

Those wishing to take the employment exam can log on to http://www.wildlifedepartment.com/careers/test.htm for a list of requirements that must be met in order to take the exam.
