Zaiglin Honored for Career Achievements

Bob Zaiglin,  Southern Field Editor for Deer & Deer Hunting, was awarded the prestigious Deer Management Career Achievement Award during the 35th  annual Southeast Deer Study Group conference.

(Photo: Special to D&DH)Zaiglin, of Uvalde, Texas, accepted the award at the SEDSG meetings held Feb. 26-28 in Sandestin, Fla. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the understanding of white-tailed deer ecology and management in the southeastern United States. It may recognize a single achievement or contributions over an extended period of time and is presented at the annual meeting of the Southeast Deer Study Group. The award is given for activities conducted within the member states of the Southeast Section of The Wildlife Society and Missouri, Texas, Delaware, Maryland and West Virginia.

Zaigin holds a B.S. in Wildlife Science and a M.S. in Range and Wildlife Management. His management programs have been recognized as some of the most successful in the country. He was awarded Texas Conservationist of the Year by the Texas Game Warden’s Association for his work with underprivileged youth hunting activities in 1985. In 1994 Bob was awarded the Game Biologist of the year by the Muy Grande Deer Contest. He also received the Col. Jimmy Doolittle Award from the Buckmasters American Deer Foundation in 2002.

Zaiglin is an official scorer for the Boone and Crockett Club and for Buckmasters Trophy Records, Field Editor for the Texas Trophy Hunters Association, Whitetail Deer Editor for Texas Outdoors Journal and a professional contributor for His photographic skills have also been widely recognized. Since 1976, Zaiglin has authored and co-authored over 26 scientifically peer reviewed articles. This includes his master’s thesis which at the time was one of the initial free-ranging white-tailed deer supplemental feed research projects in the state.

In 2008 – 2010 Bob published two books with Krause Publications on white-tailed deer titled Whitetail Advantage and Whitetail Racks.
