Governor Signs Bill Approving Blaze Pink for Hunting

Blaze pink is now approved for hunters following the signing of a legislative bill Feb. 4 by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

Blaze pinkWalker signed Act 131 into law, making Wisconsin the first state in the nation to allow the bright pink color as a safety apparel for hunting. The color was studied by the University of Wisconsin for visibility. Legislators pushed for the new option for hunters partly to spur retail sales and also to help spur interest in hunting from women.

Blaze orange has been used for decades throughout North America by hunters for safety apparel. Its high visibility in the woods and fields when worn by big game and upland bird hunters makes it one of the best safety garments available.

States have different requirements for the amount of blaze orange for hunters, from 144 square inches (a cap, or vest) in some to 500 square inches in others. Upland bird hunters wear caps and apparel with blaze orange to help distinguish them in the field for safety around other hunters.
