Montana wildlife officials are among the latest western states making noise about taking more aggressive action on wolf populations and their effects on wildlife and livestock.
During a state Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission meeting this week, FWP Director Joe Maurier said lengthening the season, reducing license fees for nonresidents and other options all are being considered. He wants some more solid ideas and possible changes by the 2013 legislative session.
“My message, right off the bat, is that we are going to be much more aggressive in our proposals this hunting season; not just because it’s what people want but because of what we’re seeing out in the field,” Maurier said in a report by the Helena Independent Record. “It’s very clear that harvesting wolves will be a challenge for us.”
