LAS VEGAS – The Deer & Deer Hunting crew is in attendance at the annual SHOT Show this week, looking for new products and story ideas. Check back frequently for updates, new stories and Deer Talk Now segments from the show.

O.F. Mossberg and Sons and Mathews have partnered to develop a new Recoil Reduction System which will be featured on seven new Mossberg pump-action shotguns in 2013.

This exclusive system features a unique Mossberg Dual-Comb (low and high profile inserts) stock design incorporating Mathews Harmonic Damper Technology combined with a newly re-engineered thermoplastic elastomer recoil pad. The result is up to 20 percent reduction in felt recoil and added comfort in the field or at the range.

The Mossberg Recoil Reduction System, which incorporates the Mathews harmonic dampener in the stock, will be available on several models of turkey, waterfowl and deer shotguns.

The Mossberg Recoil Reduction System will be available on select 835 Ulti-Mag and 535 ATS Turkey and Waterfowl 12 gauge 3 ½-inch pump-action shotguns and two 500 12-gauge 3-inch pump-actions, a convenient Field/Deer Two-Barrel Combo and a special-purpose Tactical 6-Shot model.

Well-known in the world of archery and bowhunting, the Mathews Harmonic Damper incorporates a patented counter-phase technology that interrupts the recoil wave while weights floating in an internal elastomer wheel absorb recoil vibrations. The Mathews Damper is housed in an exclusive Mossberg stock with interchangeable low and high profile combs to ensure a more comfortable fit and overall reduction of felt recoil as the recoil wave is interrupted when it passes through the stock. Additional comfort is provided by the recoil-absorbing, thermoplastic elastomer recoil pad. Together reducing felt recoil up to 20 percent.

Mossberg pump-action shotguns are designed for reliable, smooth operation with the combination of dual extractors, twin-action bars, positive steel-to-steel lock-up and an anti-jam elevator. All receivers are drilled and tapped for the addition of scope base or Picatinny rail and feature Mossberg’s universally-recognized, ambidextrous top-mounted safety.

500 Recoil Reduction System Shotguns – With 10 million in production, these 12 gauge 3-inch pump actions are recognized for their rugged dependability and versatility. Two models feature the new Recoil Reduction System – the Field/Deer Combo is fully-camouflaged in Mossy Oak Break-Up Infinity and comes standard with a 28-inch vent rib, ported barrel with dual bead sights and ACCU-CHOKE choke tube set AND a 24-inch ported, fully-rifled barrel with adjustable rifle sights. Remington 783

Remington has a new bolt action rifle, the Model 783, that is garnering attention as a great rifle at a moderate price for the everyday hunter.

Veteran hunter and writer Mike Hanback has a solid review of the Model 783, which will be available in the popular .270, .30-06, .308 and 7mm Rem. Mag. Smart thinking by Remington, because just about any Mom ‘n Pop gas station or backwoods store in the Southeast that sells hunting stuff will have those calibers.

The Model 783 will be priced at about $450, which isn’t bad at all for a good rifle.

Stack-On Adds Tactical Cabinet

Stack-On Products announces the introduction of a Tactical Steel Security Cabinet, offering secure storage for two tactical weapons and up to 14 rifles or shotguns.

“The large increase in the use of tactical weapons has prompted us to introduce new storage solutions” said Shelley Nehrt, Director of Marketing for Stack-On Products. “Tactical weapons require more storage space and greater flexibility due to the differences in the height and shape of the weapons. We think our new line of secure tactical storage products will help meet the needs of gun owners.”

The security cabinet is designed to provide quick and easy access/storage for tactical weapons. The interior of the cabinet is divided into three sections with the center section dedicated to storing two tactical weapons. The other two sections can each store up to seven rifles/shotguns or converted to shelving for added storage. Extended barrel rests keep tactical weapons away from the back wall of the cabinet while a sculpted bottom pad keeps gun stocks from shifting.

Approved as meeting the California Department of Justice standards for firearm safety, this cabinet features a three-point locking system securing the door at the top, bottom and center opening side. A double-bitted, cylinder key lock operates the locking mechanism. The key is not removable when the door is open, preventing the user from accidently forgetting to lock the cabinet.

Four steel shelves are included, providing greater organization options for the rifle/shotgun sections of the cabinet. A full width steel shelf is included and ties the three compartments together. There is a section in the front of the cabinet for storing long guns or scoped rifles.

The exterior of this cabinet has been enhanced with large, flat black tread plate and silver steel accent panels which are riveted to the front of the cabinet. Dimensions of the cabinet are 21″ W x 18″ D x 55″ H.
