“I’m very proud to be a small part of this long-running tradition,” says executive editor Jim Spencer. “Thank you all for helping us keep this whole thing going.”

This 40th anniversary issue showcases the history of the magazine with a main feature package that includes one curated entry for each year of publication. From 1975 to 2015, the editorial staff cherry picked brief excerpts from the archive of everything that has evolved in the world of trapping and predator hunting. There are tips, insights, field observations, short stories, how-to advice, historical notes and even a poem written by a trapper in 1976 that still rings true today.

Other highlights from this 40th anniversary issue:

  • Field editor Serge Lariviere covers the state of the fur market industry and although the current fur prices are grim, there are some small but positive trends for the pelts of certain furbearers.
  • In every issue is executive editor and expert trapper Jim Spencer’s editorial page where he mulls over topics in the trapping and hunting world. Lifelong trapper Hal Sullivan writes the how-to column, “Make This Set,” along with the magazine’s humorous closing column, “End of the Line.” The talented artist Sharon Davis illustrates both of these columns. Also there are a calendar of nationwide trapping events and a classified ad marketplace to help find the trapping gear you need.

  • There is trapping news from around North America that is submitted by state and regional trapper associations. They cover everything from local and state politics that affect trapping to announcing rendezvous and fur auctions. It is a good place to find the lowdown about what is happening in the trapping scene in a region near you.
  • The New Gear section covers gadgets and products of interest to trappers and predator hunters. In this issue, Matthew Breuer reviews and field tests Savage’s Lightweight Varminter rifle and finds it to be an excellent and accurate gun for taking furbearers.
