Destination Whitetail, produced by F+W Outdoors, has been named a finalist for the 2012 Sportsman Choice Awards in the “Best New Series” category, as selected by network viewers.
Destination Whitetail is a television show that investigates the people, places and ways to hunt whitetail throughout North America. In the 43 states that have deer populations, their habitat varies, as do the traditions and methods used to hunt them. The show follows every imaginable type of hunter and weapon used from guns to bows.
Destination Whitetail airs Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. CST on Sportsman Channel.
“Being nominated for any of these awards is an honor,” said Chris Hermans, Executive Producer of Destination Whitetail. “We are grateful to all the fans who voted for Destination Whitetail and for embracing this distinctive format. We are fortunate to have such a great team capturing these unique stories throughout whitetail country. We are excited about the award show in Las Vegas and bringing the fans another great season of Destination Whitetail on Sportsman Channel.”
The Sportsman Choice Awards are selected annually by viewers and will be awarded at the Sportsman Choice Awards party, held annually in Las Vegas during the S.H.O.T. Show in January. Sportsman Channel producers narrowed the field to five finalists in 11 categories based on votes from the network’s viewers.
“Sportsman Channel offers the only viewer-decided awards in our industry, and with the best-in-class programs available, the process is one of the most extensive,” said Todd Hansen, Sportsman Channel COO. “We are extremely proud of these finalists and look forward to seeing who the viewers decide should accept these prestigious awards in January.”

Here is the 2012 lineup for Destination Whitetail, hosted by Lauren Rich:
Alabama Dog Goners, Eufaula, Ala. — Think you know how dog hunting for whitetails is done? Think again. This episode takes you along for the ride with the president of the Alabama Dog Hunter’s Association and his hunting club. The history of dog hunting for whitetails goes back to our country’s roots but is often looked at as outdated. After watching this episode you may see this process in a different light.
Kentucky’s Deer Secrets –Known for bluegrass, bourbon and horse breeding, Kentucky is often overlooked as a prime whitetail destination. In this episode we travel to the western region to get an in-depth look at hunting one of the countries first bow seasons … that is, if our crew can get there through one wicked storm.
Ted Nugent Birthday Hunt, San Antonio — We head to the YO ranch in Texas to follow one of the most prolific names in hunting. Ted Nugent has been on the frontline of hunters rights for more than 30 years and is always controversial. See what it’s like to walk a day in his shoes when he hosts his annual birthday bash at this iconic Texas ranch.
Tale of Two Cities, Duluth, Minn. — We cover urban bow hunts in two northern Minnesota cites. Two Harbors puts on its first bow hunt framed on Duluth’s successful model in its seventh year. Patterning city bucks is a unique talent learned by a few local veteran bowhunters.
Behind the Scenes with Pat & Nicole, Plainview, Minn. — Juggling family and filming is just part of the controlled chaos that is part of Pat & Nicole’s life. Learn how they keep it all together.
Texas Drought, Texas Panhandle — Before the rains came in Texas the 100-year drought was tough on the deer population and all the people who depend on the land for their livelhood. We look at the colorful history and chase deer in the wide open spaces of the Panhandle.
Florida’s Beach Bucks, Panama City Beach, Fla. — White sand beaches and deer are not usually thought of together but we find that deer hunting in this beach community is a thriving industry.
Seedy Side of Whitetail, Montgomery, Ala. — We follow the legendary Ray Scott in Alabama. Most know Scott for his creation of B.A.S.S., the bass fishing organization, but he also started the food plot revolution with the Whitetail Institute. We follow Scott for the day, learn the history of Whitetail Institute and hunt on their testing grounds.
Wisconsin’s Hallowed Deer Opener, Central Wisconsin — The only thing more sacred to Wisconsin residents than the Green Bay Packers and cheese is the opening weekend of the firearm deer season. We enter the heart of state to see why this pilgrimage to the woods is so special.
Wounded Warrior, Northern Florida — We follow the story of wounded warrior Stacy Twiggs, who was injured in the first Gulf War. Twiggs’s passion for hunting and fishing has never dimmed.
Whitetail Dances with Buffalo — The bluff country on the Minnesota-Wisconsin border is where we found the Buffalo Wrangler, who worked on the Dances with Wolves film. We visit with him at his ranch, right in the middle of prime whitetail hunting.
Whitetail Slam for Coues Deer — Tom Miranda hunts the Coues deer in the Mexican desert for his new Whitetail Slam.
Check out Whitetail Destination every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Central on Sportsman Channel.
