Locavore Blog: Beginner’s Guide to Archery: for Women

I’m excited to share that the pre-order site for the Beginner’s Guide to Archery: For Women is live! This will be available as both a digital download and as a DVD for purchase. My personal journey from newbie to novice will hopefully inspire others to pick up a bow and arrow and find empowerment through learning archery and bowhunting.

When I first moved to Vermont, I didn’t know I was going to start bowhunting, but after talking with so many female hunters, like Tiffany Lakosky, Brenda Valentine, Vicki Cianciarulo, and Lily Raff McCaulou, I was inspired to learn how to hunt. There is something incredibly empowering about hunting for your own food and as someone wrapping up a Master’s of Science in Sustainable Food Systems at Green Mountain College, I didn’t fail to see the connection between wild food and local food.

So I spent the last year learning archery. I wanted to learn how to hunt and the appeal of using a bow and arrow really registered within me. There is something very meditative and calming about shooting a bow and arrow and, while I may try using a rifle at some point, right now I’m focused on honing my skills with my compound bow.

I am so happy I decided to learn archery!

I’m really excited to see the final product and share it with anyone else who is curious to try. If I can do this, anyone can, and the confidence gained in learning archery has affected other areas of my life — all for the better.

What’s in the Beginner’s Guide to Archery for Women?

This DVD is packed with information to help you get started learning archery. It will cover my first archery lesson, equipment fundamentals, daily practice, safety considerations, scent control, gear to get started, and discuss the link between wild food and local food.

It was incredibly awesome learning experience and I hope that the Beginner’s Guide to Archery: for Women will help others get started. I know that I am really happy that I decided to step outside of my personal comfort zone, try something new, and find a great way to spend time outdoors doing a new activity that provides quality free range meat for my family while also giving me a fun opportunity to spend hours outside.

My interest in archery has sparked the interest in my daughter.

  1. I don’t see a way to do this privately, so I’ll mention here and hope you won’t mind.

In the first paragraph here on this page, you typed:
“My personal journey from newbie to novice will …”

‘Newbie’ and ‘novice’ mean the same thing. Arguably, one might consider the connotation of ‘newbie’ to be ‘even more new than novice’. Did you perhaps mean it that way?

I’m very interested in seeing women who are able to show their strength and be in a position to be a role model for other women, young or old. I’m very happy to have found you (thru a link posted by Ted Nugent).

    Bon chance!
