Whew! I’m tired. No, really, really tired, as in worn out, beat, exhausted, whooped, bug-eyed bleary, schnookered, wasted, pooped, runnin’ on empty, out of gas, deflated, sizzled, schnizzled, windless beneath my wings, frazzled, burned out, out of steam, sleepy, schnackered, smoldering, limp, flatlined, simply near the end of my rope.
By Ted Nugent
You get the picture.
But alas poor Yorik, even as I cautiously sneak a peek over the precipice of my demise, gazing into the valley of death, a glowing killer ember still burns in my indefatigable predator fire down below, and like a Phoenix rising wildly from the ashes of near defeat, I again, today, eagerly grab my Mathews bow, don my Mossy Oak ScentBlocker whitetail battle fatigues and nonetheless tippy toe with a smile on my face to the ambush tree of choice, this crazy, indescribable 210th day of deerhunting since August 2014.
Do you really think anybody who doesn’t deerhunt has the faintest idea what is going on here? Heck, if I dared dig deep enough and truly scrutinize the raw data, I doubt that even I can clearly articulate what the magical driving force in my deerhunting life is.
And ask me if I care.
My raw instinct to hunt is all I need. The purity of my primal predator scream to dance the tooth, fang and claw boogie is God’s work, pure and simple.
We don’t hire “sharpshooters” round here. I am the sharpshooter and I don’t rip off tax dollars to get the job done.
Now don’t get the idea that I’m some old spoiled rich rockstar living a life of leisure, getting to hunt everyday because I have nothing better to do.
Far from it.
Simply put I am a man of priorities, and being raised by two loving parents in an ultra-hardcore disciplined Detroit household in those special post WWII years, the American Dream defining battlecry of “earn your own way” guided my every move since my earliest years.
I had two paper routes, cut lawns, washed cars, shoveled snow, raked leaves, sold nightcrawlers, taught guitar lessons, worked at a gas station and played killer rock-n-roll every weekend since I was about 9.
So now as I wallow like a maniac hog in slop in the fruits of my labor, for many, many years now I have managed to identify the first and last three hours of daylight every day as my hunting time.
Can we please have a moment of silence for the coolest thing in the world!
This here NugeBlog#77 will magically appear on the glowing pages of deeranddeerhunting.com on this Thursday, the 19th day of February 2015, which means I still have 10 glorious days of whitetail deerhunting here on my homegrounds of Texas.
Then of course the eternal hunt for exotics, cougars, hogs, varmints, squirrels, rabbits and assorted pests rambles on nonstop, and it won’t be long before I get after the mighty wild turkey.
Besides running my year round trapline for coyotes, bobcats, fox, coons, possums, skunks and various critters, I also have some killer fishing for cats, bass, bream and other aquatic tasties right here out my backdoor.
Before you know it, bear season erupts across North America, and with that hunting chapter keeping us busy, the summer will cruise to an end, and Good Lord Almighty, it will be fall again.
Now mind you, everyday in between the morning and afternoon hunts, I write for a dozen or so sporting publications and political websites, I create insane, wonderful music pretty much every day, I conduct speaking presentations around the country and am involved with pretty much every military and children’s charity you can name. Producing, filming and editing the #1 hunting show in the world takes a bit of time as you can well imagine.
And one must never forget the most important priorities of all as husband, father and grandfather to my wonderful family.
So as you can see, it may appear to be all hunting all the time, but I assure you, I earn every stimulating, rewarding minute of my treestand time.
So that’s the way it is in this 2nd month of 2015 and I thought I would share it with you here. Never a dull moment, never a dull instrument, no such thing as boring in my wonderful deerhunting life.
I might be somewhat tired, but I am never over and never out. The big bad wonderful predator inside of me is alive and well, snarling ferociously, drooling all over his backstrap breath self, and very, very happy!
