Buzz around the Twin Ports area of northern Minnesota was that a “secret” big-box sporting goods retailer was looking for a home on the edge of Duluth.
According to a story in the Duluth News Tribune, the sporting goods giant revealed that it was the secret partner when it walked away from the project after local municipalities haggled over rights.
According to the report, Bass Pro Shops pulled out of the project because of the continuing court battles over who has jurisdiction over the land. The city of Proctor, Midway Township and even the city of Duluth got involved.
Bass Pro Shops decided the hassle wasn’t worth the investment.
