Blind South Dakota Youth Kills First Deer

by Ben Sobieck, D&DH online editor

Deer & Deer Hunting reader Nancy Jorgenson sent in this clipping from a newspaper in Flandreau, South Dakota. Her 12-year-old nephew, Marcus VanDam, killed his first deer this past November.

That’s an accomplishment in itself, but it’s even more significant when you know Marcus lost his sight five years ago.

According to the article, Marcus had help from his father to aim at a yearling using a special laser scope. But it was Marcus who pulled the trigger.

After the shot, the article states Marcus was “overjoyed.” So was his father.

Congratulations, Marcus, from all of us as Deer & Deer Hunting!
