Deer & Deer Hunting Salutes the Celebrities Who Embrace the Outdoors

Every day in the United States, we’re able to go to work, go on vacations, enjoy watching our children play sports or dance or perform in bands … all because of the great freedoms we have and celebrate.

Each year we enjoy the Fourth of July holiday as a time of renewal. Sure, we may pig out a bit on ribs and watermelon, throw a few back floating on an inner tube at the lake, and nod off watching a baseball game on the television. But we also take time to remember that we’re living in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

We fly the red, white and blue on our homes, with those 13 stripes and 50 stars reminding us of what was fought for in the last 237 years. We pray, and we value the bounty that Mother Earth provides.

These are not only our inalienable rights; they are the very basis of our core values. For this, we celebrate. It is the wholesomeness of sustainability that fuels our minds, bodies and souls.

This is why we hunt.

The white-tailed deer is not America’s greatest game animal solely because of the venison it provides. It is an embodiment of freedom.

“We the Deer Hunting People” is a tribute to the whitetail and a salute to high-profile Americans who proudly pledge their allegiance to our time-honored hunting tradition. Deer & Deer Hunting salutes these individuals for their integrity in standing up for hunters everywhere in their support of the outdoors lifestyle.

Ted Nugent

Rock Musician/Hunting Advocate
63, Redford, Mich.

Nugent, who became popular for hits like “Stranglehold,” “Cat Scratch Fever,” “Wango Tango,” “Great White Buffalo” and “Fred Bear,” is almost as well known for his unwavering political views and staunch support of hunting and gun rights.

“Hunting rights and Second Amendment rights are the tip of the culture war spear, my friends,” Nugent said. “Political correctness and its insane cult of denial are an ugly blight on the soul of America, and the cure and preventative maintenance is constant diligence against those who defy, deny, violate or disrespect truth, logic and The American Way.”

Paul Ryan

Paul Ryan Hunter

U.S. Congressman and Republican Vice Presidential Candidate
42, Janesville, Wis.

U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, of Wisconsin, was tabbed by Mitt Romney earlier this year as the Republican candidate for Vice President. As one of the most visible members of Congress, Ryan serves as Chairman of the House Budget Committee and is a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee. He is serving his seventh term in Congress.

Ryan, a longtime bowhunter, says he’s “pretty typical for a Wisconsin guy.”

“I love hunting and fishing,” he said. “Bowhunting is my passion. Studying the strategy, preparing food plots, the strategy of where a dominant buck is living or will be moving and then being in position to get a shot, that’s really exciting. Half of it is getting ready for the shot. There’s never an end to learning.”

Donald Trump Jr.

Executive Vice President The Trump Organization
34, New York, N.Y.

Being the son of a famous New York businessman seems like an unlikely path to becoming an outdoorsmen, but Donald Trump Jr.’s love for hunting began as a child in the woods of the Czech Republic with his grandfather. Now his favorite hunting partner is his brother, Eric.

Although Donald Trump Jr. still works in the Big Apple, he escapes the city as often as possible to pursue his passion for hunting.

“I haven’t spent a weekend in the city in seven years other than for the births of our children or some kind of emergency,” he said.

Jason Aldean

Country Music Artist
35, Nashville, Tenn.

Aldean arrived in Nashville in 1998 and navigated the tough route and potholes of country music’s bedrock city before his smashing 2005 debut of “Hicktown.” From there, he has had hit after hit, including: “She’s Country,” “Crazy Town,” “Johnny Cash,” “Dirt Road Anthem,” “Fly Over States,” “Church Pew” and “Tattoos on This Town.”

Aldean hunted with his family as a kid but “just kind of got out of it” as a teenager. Six or seven years ago, he found a renewed interest in it through his friendship with Adam LaRoche, a Major League Baseball player and one of the founders of Buck Commander. He’s become especially fond of bowhunting since then.

“I never had bowhunted before, and there’s more of a challenge to that, so I got into that,” Aldean said.

Willie Robertson

CEO of Duck Commander/Buck Commander
and star of A&E’s “Duck Dynasty” television show
40, Monroe, La.

“Duck Dynasty” has made Robertson a household name, but he still manages to find some time to get out of the spotlight and into a duck blind or a tree stand. It’s not all about trophy animals when he’s hunting either.

“From early on, my motivation for hunting deer wasn’t for antlers or photos,” Robertson said. “We just like to eat deer. If I run into one that’s huge, that’s exciting. If we see a 130-class or so, then we’re tickled to death around here. ”

Craig Morgan

Country Music Artist
48, Kingston Springs, Tenn.

The country musician has 14 Top 10 hits including “Redneck Yacht Club,” ”Almost Home,” “That’s What I Love About Sunday” and “Tough.”

Morgan enjoys bowhunting as much as any kind of hunting.

“It’s amazing to me that you can shoot an arrow 347 feet per second and hit a target 80 yards away, with all the advancements of technology and proper practice,” he said. “I just love it.”
