Steven Rinella, host of the wildly popular television show MeatEater, has traveled to some spectacular places around the world in search of hunting and fishing experiences.

But the Michigan native’s not chasing the Champagne lifestyle on his trips. Rinella is more comfortable in camouflage around a campfire while in pursuit of deer, caribou, javelina and other game, or in a river fly fishing for whatever bites.

aRinellaRinella is the guest this week on Deer Talk Now, the one-hour webcast devoted to deer and deer hunting. He joins hosts Dan Schmidt and Brad Rucks of Deer & Deer Hunting on the show, which airs at 12 p.m. Central from Deer & Deer Hunting headquarters in Wisconsin. Deer Talk Now is presented by Mathews, Carbon Express and ICOtec.

Rinella, originally of Twin Lake, Mich., and now living in New York, and is the author of The Scavenger’s Guide to Haute Cuisine, American Buffalo: In Search of a Lost Icon, and Meat Eater: Adventures from the Life of an American Hunter.

Rinella’s writing has also appeared in Outside, Field & Stream, The New Yorker, Glamour, The New York Times, Men’s Journal, Salon.com, O the Oprah Magazine, Bowhunter, and the annual anthologies Best American Travel Writing and Best Food Writing. His travels have included some wild experiences such as getting poisoned by wild mushrooms in Alaska to almost getting killed by a wild boar that fell from the sky in the central highlands of the Philippines’ Luzon Island.
