I can't see how a salt block could be legal but a mineral rock isn't.  Salt is a mineral too.  The rules for baiting are pretty general and don't specifically address mineral rocks or salt blocks.  Click the attached link and scroll down to review the wording used for baiting.  You might have a case if he said the salt block was legal but the mineral block wasn't.  I do know a mineral blocks taste like a salt block.

The white salt blocks are the only ones that are legal in Ala. it is in the rules somewhere as I have read it. You can only use the brown mineral blocks in the off season.

I couldn't find the information on white salt blocks vs. mineral blocks anywhere but I'll take you guys word on it.  Seems the deer are more attracted to the white salt blocks anyways so I'll invest my money in those.  White salt blocks are probably easier for the deer to see too from a distance against the brown ground cover.

I have passed on 6 small 6 points and 8 points so far and seen lots of does. I killed a 175# live weight 8 point on 11/22 at 4:45 in the afternoon. Good season so far.

I hunt here in Russel County. Seen a few good deer during Dec. The one in the picture is a beautiful 10pt I was blessed with taking. He was 200lbs. I have two boys, 15 and 9, who have taken a couple of nice bucks as well. Being in the military I haven't had alot of time with them to hunt so when we do have the time it's all about the hunt not necessarily what we take. Just wanted to share that. Remember to take a kid hunting.
