Public land hunting????

I'm blessed to hunt MO and IL public lands.  Although I live in MO, I scrape up whatever I can to be able to pay for that $ IL tag$.  It's not as famous as the IL "golden triangle", but we have equally nice, natural, free ranging, wild, public land bruisers.

I hunt public land in Ontario and have had good luck by going where most other hunters will not venture. I found that using topo maps and aerial photographs are the key for locating good spots. One of the areas that I hunt is a 15 year old cutover. I found a few spots along the edges of the cut that are fairly open and are attractive to deer. Most of the cut is regenerating to poplar and the whips are over 10 feet tall; which reduces visibility on the ground to abot 30 feet. Because it's so thick, most hunters drive by the cutover without giving it a second glance. If they only knew what lurks within!
