November 2010 Issue...Page 70

Postby Woods Walker » Sun Oct 10, 2010 12:19 pm

I was going through the latest issue, and was really enjoying it, and then I saw the ad on page 70.

You know, one of the things that separates D&DH from most all of the other hunting mags is the absence of the tacky Viagra ads and the like. To me, all that stuff has no place in an outdoor sports magazine that's geared towards men, women and young people.

IMO, the ad on page 70 went beyond the Viagra ads even. It was using a woman's body to sell a product that has absolutely NOTHING to do with a woman's breast size. Cheap, tacky, double meaning adolescent humor that as a father of a college age daughter I resent highly.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no prude, and can tell my share of tacky jokes and the like, but it should be in the right setting.

D&DH is NOT that setting.

Was that the "flat" ad?

I too thought that it was a little distasteful.

Yup. That one. Like a woman is "no fun" unless she has oversized mammary glands. Like that's all there is to a woman.

What is this, "Hustler"??? [:'(]

What an insult to women, and especially to women who have survived breast cancer. To one of them, that ad had to hurt.

I'm with Woodsy and I'm ashamed that I didn't speak up sooner. The add actually appeared in a previous issue. It bothered me then, but I second guessed myself and thought I was being too sensitive. It showed up again in this issue and I made up my mind to speak out. But I didn't do it. Well better late than never!

It is in bad taste and runs contrary to any standard of decency or modesty. D&DH is batter than this and as subscribers we have a right to expect a higher standard from them! I know times are tough and every advertising dollar counts, but this publication needs to stay above this sort of thing if they expect our loyalty.

Seriously Woods Walker, thanks for speaking up.

Thanks J'per. I don't know how I missed it if it was in another issue. I guess ad PLACEMENT is important!

I just hope more of us speak up, or pretty soon we'll be seeing ads for deer mineral supplements and the like with a male model and the double entendre about "SIZE DOES MATTER", followed up with Viagra ads.

Like you said, D&DH is better than that.....I hope....

Tell that to the women I know that have had masectomys. I'm sure they'd think the ad was a real hoot.

Yeah, it offends me and I'm man enough to stand up and say so. Sex may sell for you, but I try to maintain a little more self control.

I guess I have to wonder what's going on with YOU. You rarely post but you stand up to defend THAT add? Are you serious?

Ditto what the others have said. I thought the ad was out of place and out of character for D&DH. I was actually a little surprised to see it the second time, mostly because (having an advertising background) I didn't think it was a very effective ad. But then, often magazine ads are multiple buys. So, be ready guys -- you may see it again.
