I see the D&DH January issue no longer has the add we've all been talking about.  They also have a few comments about it in the Readers Write section.

Way to go D&DH!  Thank you!

!!!! I was so stunned from seeing the longbow article that I missed the absence of the add in question! (Which BTW the outstanding!!!)

Good on ya D&DH!

I just hope it was an editorial decision and not the fact that the ad just expired.

I will say this! My Wifee Sends magizens to my son In afghan, Im sure they dont mind the Pic In the D&DH Issues

You people are missing the point, so I shall explain it one last time. Now pay attention......

It is NOT, and I repeat NOT the photo of the woman in and of itself that makes the ad offensive. She is not dressed indecently, not even by the standards of a magazine like D&DH which is for a varied readership.

And I certainly do not mind looking at a photo of an attractive woman. I may be older, but I sure as hell ain't dead.

Now here comes the important part, so make sure you slow down and read this real well so you understand the context.......

It was the WORDS in the ad that refered to the woman, and how it was degrading for ALL women....not just the one in the ad, who was probably well paid for it and most likely doesn't care at all....because the implication was that her breasts don't measure up to some moron's size scale. It was no different than putting a child with Down's syndrome in the ad and then making some derogatory comment in that neither people with Down's syndrome or women had any say about WHAT THEY WERE BORN WITH!

You want to mock a women who's had collegen lip disfigurement done to herself so that she now has "fish lips" and looks like a beached carp? FINE! I'm all for that! That was her CHOICE.

I'm not a prude, not by a long shot. I just think that people in general should be treated with a certain amount of respect, and degrading or mocking an entire class of humanity because of something they had no control over is NOT showing that respect.

Is my point clear now?

It's in October pg 64 as well and I can't even believe there is this much hub-bub about it.  Flat tires are no fun..duh and if you are the reading into(or between the lines) type, then you are aware that pretty women and cleavage get mens attention.

If your argument is that flat chested women should be viewed the same as any other woman then I tend to agree with that but I am smart enough to know that in society/sales that isn't necessarily the case.

If your argument is that you don't really care about the ad you just don't think it should be in D&DH then I can understand your opinion even though I don't agree with it.

I love D&DH magazine and could care less about that ad and find it mild at best furthermore I'm 100% sure a ton of others agree(did a poll here in the office).  In fact the main thing I love about D&DH magazine is it's lack of ads, it is crammed full of useful whitetail info and the ads are minimal especially when compared to many other hunting mags.

You can read into it as much or as little as you want but lets be realistic.

She is an eye catching model whom is not even that "busty", she is wearing a Genuine Innovations shirt to promote the company and a camo hat along with a gun sling(hunting magazine).  Directly below the Flat is no Fun statement is a picture of a 4 wheeler with a flat and a detailed picture of what the kit contains(actually looks pretty solid).

Anyone ever seen a Martin Archey ad...we should totally boycott them as well or every other product that has used a good looking female to catch some mans eye.

On pg 65 of the same issue is a Sitka Gear ad, I'm more offended by the price of their products than the model on the previous page.

As far as a Viagra ad, what's wrong with that?  Is that dirty or something?  Do you feel like there are no men with erectile dysfunction(sp?) that read D&DH magazine?  Are you not as sympathetic to their plight as the plight of the flat chested woman?  Imagine that an erectile dysfunction ad in a magazine read mainly by men, many of whom are not spring chickens anymore, shocking.

Yeah and those firefighter calendars are degrading to us balding, pudgy bellied, normal guys.  Luckily D&DH only sells deer calendars, but I am totally boycotting every store that sells those fireman calendars.  Sound ridiculous?

The D&DH image/brand is a cut above the rest....with article content as well as advertising.  The particular "flat" add in question doesn't fit that mold.

As an advertiser, just having an add in a high class magazine like D&DH should say enough.

If I worked or contributed to D&DH and saw ads like that in the magazine, I would not want to be linked with them.

Regarding the Viagra add.  It is very discrete.  No issues there.

Good move D&DH!

I guess I've about beat this one into the ground. If folks still don't get it or choose not to then I give up.

WW, I like your posts but I don't think that anyone is "not getting it" or "choosing" not to it's just we may view this topic differently.  The "it" you are referring to is your opinion and mine may differ.

I would rather this topic go away, just like the ad in question. I addressed the reference to pornography and my profession, privately to Gulfcapt. I regret any reference to my career that I have made and I will delete that information from my profile. Occasionally my work experiences have aided me in conversations here, particularly when medical questions or issues of physical fitness come up, but it is not worth dragging my job into conversations like this one. I will not draw your day job into this forum, please leave mine out of it as well. This will be the last time I speak of it and it is only because it has drawn comments.

I am the Captain at my firehouse. One of my responsibilities is to enforce city policy regarding materials deemed "offensive". Some firehouses have a problem with it, some don't. My experiences indicate that firehouses with porn lying around tend to be lax and distracted in other areas as well. I have cleaned house more than once in my career. Upon transferring in I have policed up any smut laying around and allowed anyone who may have "accidentally" forgotten to keep it in his/her gym bag or locker to come and get it and put it away where it will never be seen again. Nobody has come forward yet. Then it goes into the dumpster with a straight forward explanation that the next time it shows up, there will be more than a simple trip to the garbage at stake. I have never had to explain this more than once and I have never had anyone find the guts to challenge me to my face. On the flip side, I have had several firefighters, come to me and say thanks for dealing with it. I have found that men of character would prefer to be in workplace where they don't have that kind of distraction.

Again, I'd rather this fade away. There is no real need to address this post. It is simply a reply to a question.

Who has two thumbs and is ready to move on? THIS PERSON!
