Walkin' til they die

Postby Sailfish » Wed Jun 11, 2008 2:43 pm

Great article on the deer and their range, QDM and age.
Amazing based on the data that to get a full mature deer even with the surrounding lands practicing QDM that the odds were very, very small.
If I recall the best he had was a 4.5 yo.
Without fences them fellers will walk!

There probably are not many of them, either.

We've found that we see good bucks that have never been seen all summer if we remove a lot of does.So yes I think they walk.Good for us bad for where ever they come from.

The bucks that hang around the best habitat can be worth a few young bucks wandering away! If you have the doe's you'll have bucks sooner or later! I think because of the pressure in most places, any 3.5 year old buck should be considered old enough to harvest by a hunter.  The smart  6+ yearold buck's you don't know are there are the ones that suprise you.  Hunters harvest monster bucks in heavily hunted area's all the time, so it does happen on occasion.
