As the inboxes at D&DH
can attest to, the 2010 season is yielding some terrific hunts. I picked four bucks that are making news around the country.
The definition of a "big" buck usually refers to its rack size. But let's not forget that body weight used to be what "big" was all about. Forum member DannyBouy's brother-in-law killed this 13-pointer Oct. 29 in Nova Scotia. It weighed 236 pounds dressed
In the October archery season, Barry Kern killed this buck in Washington County, Pennsylvania. The 14-pointer green scored 189 gross. That makes it a contender for the new Pennsylvania bow season record.
For the past three years, Shawn McKeever tracked a buck in Morgantown, West Virginia. The buck finally crossed McKeever's sights on Oct. 29. All that hard work paid off. The buck gross scored 171, a "super great bow kill buck for West Virginia standards," he said in an e-mail.
Canada is turning out the mature bucks in a big way. Nolan Johnson killed this 181" gross 10-pointer in south Saskatchewan with a muzzleloader.
