Iorn sights or scope?

Postby nhdeerchaser » Sat Nov 14, 2009 1:45 pm

What do all you deer hunters like to top your favorite firearm with?
I prefer a scope. I have never had great eyesight, and I shoot much better with a scope. I even have my turkey shotgun topped with a scope!
What do you all like?

My eyes have gone to the that all my rifles are now scoped-- turkey guns too.  I just can't see the irons and the game both at the same time-- unless it's really bright light.

Well as you can see from my post showing my hunting guns [Bill's guns post # 11] I'm a scope believer. I have a 6-24X 50 mm on my 30-378 cal. Weatherby which is used for extreme range shooting and a 4-16X 44 mm on my 30-06 BAR.

But when I'm in the Wood so to speak ... I find a scope a hindrance for two reasons. First, it makes the gun heavier & harder to carry. Secondly, when you have to make a fast shot I find the scope just slows me down, especially at very close range.

I move thru some heavy wood/brush at times & like being able to just wrap my fingers around the receiver & carry that .35 Marlin like a bag of donuts. Oh sure, now you guys are probably thinking ... "he's probably a fatty." Well I'm not, I'm husky ...

I shoot deer rifle with a scope. But shoot iron sights while playing at the range.
