Hey everyone!

What is everyone's favorite deer hunting weapon and why.

I have a Browning BAR in .30/06, topped with a T/C hawken hunter 1.5-5x32. I shoot either remington 165 grain accutips, or hornaday 165 grain SST's.

She shoots pretty consistant groups out to 100 yards which I find impressive for an autoloader. I chose a lower power scope because I like the wider field of view this scope offers, and most of my shots are under 100 yards where I hunt.

Just curious as to what everyone likes.

Compound bow hands down!  I love the challenge and getting up close and personal with your quarry.  I still enjoy rifle/shotgun hunting...but if I could only have one it would be a bow.  I have a Bowtech VFT 70#, Beman 400 ICS Hunter arrows, TruGlo single pin sight, Rage 2 Broadheads.

Ok had to edit the post because I just realized this is the "Guns and Ammo" section...sorry about that.  That being said I own a Marlin 336 30-30 lever action...its simple, durable and accurate.  I'm in the market for a .300 WSM so once I figure out which make and model I suspect that will quickly become  favorite...very flat shooting caliber.

My PSE Compound Bow because that is how most my deer have been killed. But heck, I love all my hunting weapons! I used a '6 Point Cross Bow' last year on one of my hunts from a tree stand and slammed a bolt into a doe. That thing crushed her. Went through her chest and down into the front leg on the other side. The bolt was destroyed in the process. I was amazed at the power and damage. I'll be using that cross bow this year again, but the compound bow will be my go-to weapon.

I would have to say my XI Silverhawk (it's old) compound bow...A close second is my Remington 870 Magnum .12 gauge!

Matthews Switchback, I got it when it first came out and never found a REEZEN to switch.  I also use my dads remington model 700 woodsmaster chambered in 30-06 for gun season, and will (hopefully not any time soon) inherit my grandpas 30-06 (same model).  Those would be my two favorite tools of the trade.

My rem 870 is my fav.  It's totally beat to hell.  The wood is rubbed away and there are a bunch of dings and scratches on it.  It adds to the coolness if you ask me.  Many times I've contemplated replacing the stock and forearm with new ones but I think the gun would loose its allure if I did that.  All those scratches and dings tell the story of my hunting adventures.  I certainly cannot recall each scratch or ding but hunting is the only way they got there. I don't use the gun for anything else.  Someday when I pass that gun down to a son or grandchild.  I hope they look at how beat the gun is and then imagine all of my adventures.  I equate this to a beat-up old guitar that has seen a lot of touring.  Oh the stories they could tell!!

As I brought the Shamanic Deer Battery out of its secret underground storage facility for the pre-season warm-up,  I thought I'd take some pictures.  Of all of them, this is my favorite:  the Savage 99 in 308 WIN. 



I load it with 165 grain Hornady Interlock SP  over H4895 to provide about 2600 fps a the muzzle.  That roughly duplicates a 300 Savage.  So far this rifle has had a special mojo. Since I got it in 2003 it's only shot bucks and only shot big ones-- 3 of my biggest to date. It also holds my personal records for shortest season (10 minutes and 20 minutes)

Rem 870 12 gauge for me.  I've never hunted / killed a deer with a rifle.

Ithaca Deerslalyer II scoped with a Nikon Buckmaster 3 x 9 for my slug gun and Thompson Center Encore with the same Nikon as the Ithaca.  Like them both.
