Who else shoots one? I bought my wife a savage 110, and I love this thing, but we are looking for a good bullet .Been shooting a Winchester 120 positive expanding bullet, has performed well, but would like to hear what everyone else good luck with, so far it has killed 2 bucks both dropped in their tracks!

I don't shoot 25-06, but it is on my short list of choices. I have a buddy who has been using 25-06 for 30 years on deer and loves it. He makes it sound like a death ray.

UPDATE: OK. Now it looks like my buddy is calling it quits. He's sick and old and has decided to sell out. I'm acquiring his 25-06 sometime this summer. So now I'm in the same boat with you.

The problem, it would seem, is current scarcity of ammo and components. I just found out yesterday that Hornady has stopped manufacturing all the bullets I'd intended to try in this rifle. Bummer. I'll let you know what I come up with.

Guys,

I have not shot the 25-06 but I do shoot a similar caliber in the 257 Weatherby. Both of these calibers dictate a controlled expansion bullet. The all coppers like the Barnes and GMX, Nosler Patitions, E-tips and Accubondsthe, the Speer Grandslams and the Swifts. I have used the Accubonds for the last 4 or 5 years both the Weatherby and my 300 WSM and have had real good luck with them. The only bullet that I have recovered was from the 257. I took a doe on the point of her shoulder, cut the scapula in two, broke four or 5 ribs and recovered the bullet at the pelvis. The bullet weighed 67 gr. That equates to about 67% weight retention.

I have a NEF 25-06 single shot that I use on Crop Damage Permits . I was using Remington 120 gr core-lokt bullets and now shoot my own reloads . Manufacturer's bullets were expensive before the ammo shortage .

I finally have a pic to share with you. Here is the 25-06.

Image

It came with a 2X early model Aimpoint. However, the guy who owned it previously is an eagle-eyed fellow that was a full head shorter than me. I tried every way I could to warm up to that scope and couldn't get my face right. I switched it out for a 4-12X Bushnell Banner and medium rings and it came right up like it had known me all its life.
