What does 45-60 mean?

Postby John1961 » Mon Jan 26, 2009 1:28 am

I want to start black powder hunt. I have two muzzle loader's. One is a 54cal cva and the other is a 50cal Optama Pro. Both are used and with the 54 came a box of sabots and pellets marked 45-60. Does this mean I can use them in a 45 to 60 cal muzzle loader?

J-- the 60 is a new one on me but if I had to guess I would say it has to do with the grains of powder per pellet.  I know they make 45 grain pellets but don't know about the 60.  If there is still any marking as to the manufacturer you might check them if it is a manufacturers box.  Realistically though I would trash the powder & buy some pellets you are 100% sure of what they are....better safe than sorry

I can only tell you what I know  on my Hodgdon  Pyrodex pellets which are
 50/50......for 50 caliber in-lines ....50gr.vol per pellet....Hope that helps

I'd go on line and find out what CVA recommends as a charge for their guns

I talked to the guys at Gander Mtn and they told me to get 54/60. 54 cal 60 grand. The pellet box that came with the gun is marked in white out 45/60. . Going to trash this box and get some new ones. John
