AR15 ?

I got this new Rock River Arms AR15
And im shooting regular full metal jackets and they work great but they go throught the animal and keep going
but ive tried other rounds and they seem to not have the same knock down power
i shot a coyote at 434 yards last week and the bullet went completely throught he animal and hit a tree behind it
you guys got any good .223 ammo

I would think a soft tipped bullet like a Remington Core-Lokt or a Hornady shell would be better to use on Game and have much more knock-down power with the expansion of the bullet your going to have more of a shock wave going through/out the game your hunting.The Ballistic Tip bullets are probably even more deadly and damaging to Game also.A friend of mine is shooting a 17HMR and the bullet is so light and fast that is passes through any of the small game he shoots and they keep on going so some times you gain in a faster more flatter shooting rifle/bullet but you loose in knock down power.

I cannot speak for other states, but in Missouri you must use expanding bullets for deer hunting.

Do not use full metal jacketed ammunition on whitetail.  It does not expand very well, and it causes wounding.  In many states it is illegal.

I have heard folks having good luck with the larger (55 grain and above) Remington and Winchesters.

I am frankly not a big fan of 223 Rem for deer, but I know it has its adherents.

I wouldn't use FMJs on woodchucks , let alone deer . Too much of a chance for a ricochet . I want something that is going to expand .
I don't even want to get into the .223 cal discussion on deer let alone a semi-auto ........It's bad enough some hunters empty a 5 shot shotgun in no time flat . I used to be able to tell which way a deer was running by the 3rd shot . Now New York State has opened up some areas to rifle hunting . I can imagine the same hunters emptying a rifle real quick .
I'll stick with my single shots !

ya i dont use them for deer either
mainly coyotes and they full metal jackets leave a hole it it 4 times larger than the entry hole
and ive used the ballistic tips but they didnt have as good of exit holes and they didnt go right down
and actually ran about 200 yards with both lungs and the heart taken out

i use my .308 for that with 185 grain nosler tips
