Sheded bucks & scrapes

Postby charlie 01 » Sat Jun 29, 2013 11:45 pm

Found somethng and I'm passing it along to anyone that may have a need to know.

For many years while shed antler hunting in the later months ( late March & early April ), at times I would find breeding scrapes that had been recently worked. I kept wondering, is this buck still carrying his antlers. My wonderment was due to the year I had a local 10 pt that carried till April 14. I have forgotten how many magazines and noted deer authoritatives I had reached out to with no one being able to answer my question. I finally had my question answered through the use of one of my trail cams. Pictured is a mature buck ( stained tarsals ) that has sheded his antlers and is working a scrape, dated, as you can see, April 7.
