Not all acorns will grow. Put them in a pail of water. The ones that sink to the bottom are the good ones. The ones that float should be discarded as food for the animals.
This is true for a lot of seeds...
I tried planting a few black walnuts, from my black walnut tree in my back yard.
I did the float/sink test and found a few bad walnuts floating.
