1/4 acre deep woods food plots?

Almost ...but buckwheat isn't a throw and grow ...it does need to have a prepared seed bed and raked in or lightly disced in...likes sun as well...not as much as say alfalfa

Whitetail Instutute has 2 feed mixes that work well for this. "NoPlow" and "SecretSpot", both can be planted with little or no preparation other than clearing an area.  I have also used a product call "Throw-and-grow" not sure who make that that works well.
 
No matter what you use, get a soil test done and add lime and fertilzer as recommended
