What to plant???

Postby bonecollector23 » Mon Jan 10, 2011 9:23 pm

I have 300 acres that is really thick hardwoods with a bunch of small ponds/marsh areas mixed in. I have no heavy equipment so i was planning on using the ponds banks to plant food plots. Is there anything that i could plant that can tolerate lots of water most of the year and possibly flood at times? any advice is greatly appreciated.

We have a very similar piece of property that floods every spring and if we get alot of rain the fields can be saturated for a week or more.
The only plant that we've found that does well and actually thrives is clover, we use ladino clover, the deer are supposed to prefer it over others and it provides alot of forage.
We do plant other crops that can be planted for fall, because after July it's unusual for us to flood out again. Rye, oats, wheat, and brassicas is what we usually plant in the plots we don't have clover in for fall attraction.
Good luck!
