What Size of pack is necessary for deer hunting?

Postby mastershredder » Thu Apr 04, 2013 4:58 pm

Just interested in what size and brand of pack I should be looking to buy if I am going deer hunting. I definitely like the look of most Badlands packs, but is it true that they have an unconditional warranty? http://badlandspacks.com/hunting-gear.php but what brand of packs are most notorious for durability and efficiency? Or should I cheap out and buy something like a field line http://www.fieldline.com/Products/large-accessory-organizer/4 at Scheels? Is it necessary to get a pack large than 2200 cubic inches?

Are you really asking or are you advertising for free?

The ninja turtles never needed a backpack.

2200 cubic inches??? OMG...I HUNT them, not move in with them!

I use a fanny pack. That takes care of all I need for a full day. Brand doesn't matter as long as the material is quiet and doesn't shine.

I use my jacket pockets when hunting out of a tree stand with a rifle, and the pouch on the bottom of my stool when hunting in the swamp with shotgun and the dogs. Of course, all of my tree stands are not much more than 500 yards from the back porch, and I ride my Yamaha within 100 to 150 yards or less from the stands in the swamp.

I use a fanny pack that is big enough for a few things, yet easy enough to haul around for a day. I think I bought mine at a local sports store.

No need to buy into the heavily commercialized, overly marketed stuff out there. While I tend to be a minimalist in the woods, there shouldn't be a lot you need for a well planned, local hunt.

I carry:
-Two bottles of water
-Food (high energy candy bars, nuts, protein bars, etc...think quite opening)
-Grunt call
-Blaze orange vest
-Self made first aid kit/basic survival kit
-Extra pair of gloves and socks
-Pen, extra broadhead or two, flashlight
-Miscellaneous items

Basically keep the stuff you don't plan on using or won't use sealed up and away. Plan how you are going to use certain things during phases of the hunt and "stack" your pack accordingly. Keep the things you will need in easy, quite access.

Hope this helps.

And dont forget the "EMERGENCY ROLL" Got one in every vehicle and all backpacks that are loaded for various things. No job is done till the paperwork is done. Of course you could go rambo and use a pine cone :o :o :o

Rigghhhhttt. Hunt where the right trees are, instead of where the deer are. Duh.

"Little boy, what are you doing?" "Looking for my silver dollar I dropped" "well, where were you when you dropped it?" "Over there in the alley" ...." then why are you looking for bit way over here"
"The light is better."
The only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker is observation. All the same data is present for both. The rest is understanding what you are seeing.
