How do you? Get to/in your deer stand best.

I have crossed open fields in the dark in past hunting seasons . Sometimes seeing the silloutes of deer . I would have my grunt tube in my mouth , walk an unsteady pace , stop occasionally , give a couple blows on the tube and move . Surprisingly the deer did not run off . I make it a point to be in the stand long before light . "If" I use a light , it's the red leds in the headlight ....

Like I said, I've always wondered that.  People say to use red or green lights, but what do the deer actually see?  Hm...
