If you got the 50# salt blocks, you can pretty much just drop them on the ground near a place you think deer might travel, as they break down the deer will hit the surrounding soil. If you want to go the extra mile, dig up the ground in a 3-4 foot circle about 6 or so inches deep and put the block in the middle of it. Or partially bury the block.
Don't confuse a salt block with a mineral lick - they'll both attract deer, but the deer get no real value from salt blocks.
