How much ground?

Postby Powell1120 » Wed Jan 20, 2010 12:02 am

I was just curious how much ground meat people usually get out of their deer. I imagine there is a difference whether you process your own or have it done at a locker. This season we ended up with 90lbs of ground meat from the 5 deer we harvested. I would say that the deer were of average size as a group. I think that I do a good job of picking them clean when processing, plus we do seem to cut a lot of steaks and roasts (no neck roasts please!). Just curious to see how my total compares.

I guess a lot of the answer depends on how much of the other cuts you decide to keep.  For example, if you wanted to keep a lot of the stew meat as is, then you would have a lot less ground meat than if you decided to grind all of it.  Kind of a hard question to answer.
