Good points howhill. Another recommendation is someone knowing where you are. Before I leave, I log onto google earth and pin point my location for my family. Carry the important neccessities  screw in step, rope, cell phone whistle. hunt hard and be safe!

We used to hunt from stands and used harnesses, until a member of our club fell and broke his hip.  Now we have only blinds and box stands with all four walls on them and actual steps with hand rails.  We also have a map of the property and everyone has there own little thumbtack that they put on the stand they are gonna hunt.  If I catch someone not putting their tack on then they are banned from the club for the rest of the season.  When the member fell noone knew he was there and it was a saturday evening so noone would have found him until monday morning.  Fortunantly, his wife called me and told me he went down there and hadn't returned, so I went looking and found him.
