I think the most important thing is that the child is no longer in that womans care.  When someone does something like that you have to question that person mental situation.  It sounds to me that not only is that woman not fit to be a parent but most likely unfit to care for herself and could be a danger to other citizens.  This too is a perfect example why certain gun control laws only limit gun possession to law abiding citizens.  If someone thats not suppose to possession a firearm really wants one they will find a way to do so.
