Sheboygan Buck NOT a World Record

Postby Ben Sobieck » Tue Nov 10, 2009 5:00 am

Claims that a buck shot near Sheboygan, Wis., is a world record are unfounded, says Deer & Deer Hunting Editor Dan Schmidt. Although impressive, the buck (which can be seen here) will not score 217 5/8 as asserted by the hunter who shot it.

"Although this Sheboygan Falls, Wis., buck is incredibly massive, we highly doubt it will live up to what early reports claim to be a 230-class nontypical and/or a 218-inch typical," Schmidt said.

"It appears to us that the buck's rack will be subject to large deductions from at least one common base, possibly two, and major side-to-side differences.

"In any event, the hunter who shot this buck should not let those differences detract from taking such a fine whitetail."

Congratulations to him from the entire D&DH staff!

Ditto on the congrats. Did Dan see the buck?

It does look quite a bit more massive on one side more than the other, but a superb buck no doubt about it.  It will rank up their with the best and I could only hope to harvest such a deer.

We didn't see the deer in person, just photographs. There was enough information from those to make the call.

Still a great buck.

never understood the whole deductions thing. If ya wanna keep score, why not score the total mass of the rack?

Well..that's how Buckmaster's scores theirs(BTR). Either way makes sense to me. Let's have 'em all.

And that's not an answer..so cut this newbie some slack [:D]

Is this by any chance the "possible Record buck" featured in this video footage?  Although, judging by these photos and this video...I gotta give it to the video! Great buck still.
