Site Advertising

I like the advertisement, it makes me feel good about living here, and reminds me of how thankful I should be everyday.. I hope it it never get's removed...

Wow, an advertising problem on a deer hunting forum! If your problem with being exposed to these adds is something that you feel needs attention why don't you send a direct email to Dan or Corey at the office rather than making it public? Their email addresses can be easily found.
 
These are adds that generate $$$. I am not fond af all the Viagra adds and all the male enhancement pills and creams that are advertised in most every outdoor magazine that my young girls and nephews are exposed to when looking through them, but what can you do about it?  Cancel the subscription? Then what would I have to read in the bathroom? And would the publishers even care.
 
And by the way, its great that you sponsor theses kids! Don't be depressed about how they look in these ads, just realize your'e making a diffence to somone.

Ads are supposedly a great way for a website to generate revenue.  Yahoo, Google, etc. have made billions on the idea.  They must work, although I don't understand why.  I can't think of a time I've ever clicked on one.
 
If D&DH website wants to try a generate some extra income displaying ads, more power to them.  I'd rather they do that than charge us a membership fee, raise subscription rates, or something similar.

If the revenue is the point, they need more site users, give away a hat or something in a random drawing in the forums. I'm not sure how they charge for the ads, but I would think the more people that see them, the more the site should earn. I don't think charging subscribers more money is a option at this point, and making it a membership site is going to turn off new users. I don't mind the hunting related ads, and if they keep the site free, I'm all for it.

Most ad revenue is generated by clicks or click throughs, everytime someone clicks on an ad and goes to that site the website with an ad on it gets a fee, usually less than few cents, so it's a volume operation. 
 
You are correct, they need many more web users if they truly want to generate revenue from the ads.  It might also help if the ads were targeted at the web audience visiting the site, i.e. hunting stuff.
