Winchester Honors Safety Instructor

Postby Corey Graff » Wed Jun 04, 2008 3:08 am

Walter "Gene" Norton of Baytown, Texas, is the clear choice as the Winchester Ammunition 2007 Hunter Education Volunteer Instructor of the year.

Norton has dedicated himself to hunter education since 1972, when the program began in Texas. Through the years, he has taught more than 330 hunter education courses and certified nearly 7,000 students. In 2007, he taught 17 courses and certified 250 students.

"Gene has impacted the lives of many shooters and hunters in a positive way and most importantly, he has taught them the importance of being responsible hunters and shooters," said Dick Hammett, President of Winchester Ammunition. "Like Gene, thousands of hunter education volunteers work hard every year and we commend them for their tireless efforts."

Winchester Ammunition also recognized runner-ups Richard Kiessel of Roscommon, MI and Ricky Moss of Athens, AL for their volunteer efforts in educating and training others about hunting and firearm safety.
