Reloading Projects for Fall

Been awhile since I have been on, but have been busy with building out another Hoosier legal deer gun for the upcoming season. Added alot to the reloading line up as well.

New (to me) rifle is a single shot .357 remington magnum built on a Italian Carcano bolt action reciever, barrel length is approx 19.5 inches. I have been reloding 7.5 gr of HP38 at with a 140 Hornady bullet. The flex tip leverevelotion stuff. So far getting consistent and very nice groupings at 55 yards. 1.5" high on the bullseye and sub 1 to 1.5 inch groups. The other combo this rifle likes is factory Winchester 158 HP. It shoots about .5" low off the bullseye, but seems to group tighter. Tried loading up with Herco, but can't seem to get a load that performs as well.

Very mild to little recoil. Should be a a decent gun under 100 to 125 yards depending on what I take into the field.

I have added 45 long colt, 7.62x54R and 6.5 mm carcano to the reloading bench as well. Have rifles in each caliber so looking for some starting loads for hunting. the Russian and carcano will be coyote guns.

I tried to get some TAC powder last week at the local outlet for my new 30-30 and they said it was unavailable in NY.

I PM'd you back.  This was the Contender, right? 

I'm wondering what 11 grains of Unique would do.  I'm not saying to try it, but I'd be interested.  Normally, if you have a 30-something Centerfire and you stuff 11 grains of Unique behind a bullet, you get a pretty good plinking round. Unique would be a faster burning powder, and might give you less report and flash. 

AGAIN:  Don't just go loading Unique on my say-so.  However, it might be worth investigating.

  Thanks for the info and the article link.  The gun(TC Contender old style) was a present from my wife many years ago.  It's been sitting in my safe with a .223 pistol barrel on it not getting much action.  I figured I'd buy a rifle barrel and stock for it and give it some opening day tree stand action.  I loaded 5 of each: 125 & 165 gr NBT, 130 Barnes, & 135 Sierras.  Since it's a single shot, I'm not bound by flat nosed bullets so I should be able to stretch it to 200-250 yards if necessary with the far superior BC of the pointed projectiles.  I used IMR4895 & H335 as I had these powders in my arsenal.  I may get to shoot it this weekend.  I put a Burris 1.75X 5 on it for now that was unattached to anything.

Hi everyone my name is Chris and I'm a hunting, reloading,trap shooting junky!!!  OOHH Sorry wrong meeting!lol I'm new here and was wondering if anyone has tried any Hornaday ftx for 30-30 or .35 rem. and had any good results? I have only found a few loads with little sucsess. Would like to hear if anyone is having any luck with them. I hope my humor didn't affend anyone. Thanks in advance for any info.  Chris

I've heard some good reports on accuracy and terminal performance on the Leverevolutions(sp?) but have not tried them myself.  All reports were confined to the 30-30.
