Top 5 Hunting Songs

Postby JAbbott » Thu Sep 27, 2012 6:22 am

Curious about everybody's favorite hunting songs or songs that remind you of hunting. Every time I hear Tennessee Ernie Ford's Shot-gun Boogie I get pretty geared up to get out in the woods... but it also reminds me of my Grandad. Anyway, I found a good list of the best hunting and fishing songs over at another site and I agree with a lot of theirs but here are my top 5.

1. Welcome To The Jungle by GNR http://youtu.be/kr8-E8may2Y
2. Country Boy Can Survive by Hank Jr. http://youtu.be/I4s0nzsU1Wg
3. Thank God I'm A Country Boy by John Denver http://youtu.be/wqb0em452CM
4. Deer Season Fever by Lo-Brau http://lo-brau.bandcamp.com/album/deer-season-fever
5. Call of the Wild by Chris Ledoux http://youtu.be/31WBruHtisM

How can you not include Fred Bear by Ted Nugent??

Ya'll are right. Fred Bear is a damn good one. Turdy point is pretty good one too. Another one that's pretty killer but relative unkown is called Huntin' Here in TX. A buddy of mine had it on a burned CD. Badass tune but I can't remember the band.

Songs that remind me of hunting?

Well, they aren't exactly hunting songs, but if you're asking what will be on my playlist on the way to camp:

Keith Jarrett Koln Concerts, as well as Bremen, Lausanne, and Paris: Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjCuupHPk7Q
Pat Metheny Across the Heartland , As Witchita Falls. . ., Offramp, etc.
Jethro Tull's Chateau D'Isaster tapes, Songs from the Wood, Heavy Horses

Opening night at camp, we usually play Pat Metheny's North -- that one especially reminds me of deer hunts past

Sometime over the first week I usually bring out Bethoven's Sixth ( The Cleveland Symphony/George Szell remasters)

To get folks up in the morning?

From The Enemy Below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMI7r2dGAX8 SING IT, HEINIE!
From The Battle of the Bulge( Panzerlied): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPzTGx96 ... re=related

Or anything from my son's band, CCP&D:

or his new band, North Coast

Genesis 9:2-4 Ministries of SW Bracken County, KY
Confessions of a Cervid Serial Killer

Agreed. Thats a good one. Heard that song at a wedding reception last summer and there were a few people there who were wondering who Fred Bear was and why was Ted singing about him. Duh!!!

Don't forget Da Yoopers. They have "Second Week of Deer Camp" ( Parts 1 & 2) and "Mighty Manly Hunting Men"
They also do "Turdy Point Buck" parts 1 & 2, "Deer Hunter's Widow", "Deer Hunting Son of a Gun" and "I Taught It Was A Buck"

Not to mention the rest of the "Hunt Music" CD; Spirit of the Wild, Sunrise, I Just wanna go hunting, Earthtones, Tooth Fang and Claw, My bow and Arrow...

But, I've always been a fan of a song called "Pass it on" by Tracy Byrd. It used to be the Mossy Oak theme song.
