Every year, the Iowa DNR grants eligible non-profit organizations operating in Iowa the opportunity to auction off a Statewide Iowa Nonresident Deer tag to raise funds for conservation work. Proceeds from this particular tag will be split 50/50 with the Iowa DNR and the Hawkeye Fly Fishing Assoc. The winning bidder can choose to keep or give away the tag, can choose either 2013 or 2014 to hunt (not both), and gets their choice of seasons (i.e. archery; shotgun 1 or 2; or late muzzleloader) anywhere in the state - and in the process, will be helping support the conservation and outdoor education programs of HFFA. Note that if you are fortunate enough to have drawn a buck tag for Iowa for this year, you can still bid on this tag but you'll have to use it in 2014 or give it away to someone who doesn't already have a non-resident tag for the 2013 seasons. If you search eBay, you'll see that these tags have gone pretty high. Keep in mind that this is partly because this is a way for a nonresident to hunt Iowa deer without success in the draw - and the purchase price in excess of the $426 standard cost for a nonresident tag is tax deductible.
