I believe Kershaw is in Game Zone 5, so you are quite a bit North of the lowcountry, so the rut may not be going on like it is down here. If that's the case, you may be experiencing the "October lull", which is normal due to the bachelor groups splitting up and the dominant bucks running the younger and smaller bucks out of the area. Also, you may have an abundance of acorns in certain areas that are holding the deer until they are depleted. If they were there in August, and September, they'll be there the rest of the year unless something has pressured them out of the area, they are cruising, or they are holding on other food sources. Regardless, they'll be back as long as the cause isn't too much pressure.
