The fields these deer were feeding in are along I-77, so it could have been rye grass I suppose. I'm not a grassoligist so I couldn't say for sure.

Since you seemed to think it was something personal, I figured I would let others set you straight.
As I said, it may appear they graze like sheep, but it not quite right. They pick and choose between the blades of grass for what they want.
The only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker is observation. All the same data is present for both. The rest is understanding what you are seeing.

I've seen them picking and choosing, just didn't want to get too specific as to what they were picking and choosing. Sheep, yeah they eat just about everything except the thistles.
