What is your winter deer kill report?

Postby MZS » Sat Apr 26, 2014 6:16 am

What are you seeing for winter kill? Up here in N. WI I don't even have to go into the woods - I see a few deer laying in heaps in the fields as I drive by. But also a lot of deer made it through OK. The very low numbers we had to start the winter probably helped preserve what we had left. If we had large numbers to start the winter I think it could have been a disaster. Estimates around here were at about 130" of snow, combined with coldest winter on record!

According to http://www.seattlepi.com/news/science/a ... 416031.php
About 30 percent of the collared fawns in the northern [WI] forest and 15 percent in the farmlands have died. Adults have fared better, with 6 percent loses in the north and 2 percent losses in the farmlands. Causes of death include predation, car crashes and starvation.

I know this probably only applies to about a half dozen states, but I thought I would post to at least provide a new topic. Been a bit slow here lately.
