how long before they expire?

Postby Homunculi » Mon Jun 09, 2014 11:01 am

over the past 2 weeks i have been called for police shootings of deer struck by a car .. both of them were pregnant ...

the first one i was there within 15 min but i did not have my knives with me .. when i got her home and dressing her out
she had twins...

and this past friday got another call .. did not look pregnant but she had triplets inside of her ..

i guess my question is how long do i have to save the fawns ????? :?:
If I ain't huntin i ain't livin!!

hunting is not only skill but, being in the right place at the right time ...

I don't mean to sound cold, but "Save them for what?" It's not legal to have a wild deer in Ohio without a permit. We are talking a premature fawn here. Without a super amount of constant care, they don't stand much of a chance and if they did survive I doubt that they could be released into the wild. MIght be best to let nature take it's course. My .02
Keep life simple...if you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.

letting nature take its course is what i have been doing for years .. just had the idea that if they can be saved there is a high fence farm a couple of towns over that they have doe fenced in to collect urine and estrus from ...
i know if i saved one it would not be able to survive in the wild ...

or i am just over thinking things to keep my mind off other things going on ...

I would ask at the fenced deer farm, first. If they have a doe in milk, they might be able to raise it, if they were willing. Don't even bother with, "can I do it in time?" , before " what do I do with this now?" unless you have a clear cut answer to question #2, question #1 doesn't matter.
The only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker is observation. All the same data is present for both. The rest is understanding what you are seeing.

I'd think you'd have to have the fawn out and breathing air within 3 minutes of the does demise to save it. While in the uterus, the fetus depends on oxygen from doe's circulation. That stops and fetus suffocates...
