Shed hunting??

Postby Goose » Thu Jan 01, 2009 11:19 am

Well here in WI we seem to be getting snow every other day! I was looking forward to doing some shed hunting pretty soon but with all this snow I don't know if it will be possible.
Last year I waited till spring and there was so much water I really couldn't get into the areas I wanted to because they were under water.
What are your plans?

I plan on looking for some sheds this weekend.  We have this dumb holiday hunt still going on so i'll bring a gun with me but most likely won't take a deer.  On Tuesday a big buck with about a 18 inch spread was seen next to our property with both his sides still on.  I think some of them are shedding but i'll post when i get back this weekend and tell you what i find.

I'll plan to do some serious searching starting in mid February.  Let's all post pics of the sheds we find!

When do you sheds normally fall? I'm in SE Mich if that matters any. I don't know much about the subject but i have heard its a really good way to find here the bucks are hiding out/ living, and possibly where they will be come fall. but i really want to look for em this year, i looked once last year just to be out on the woods for a day but didn't find any, it was really wet out too so that didn't help, i think i went in early march, but i just wondering if their is a "designated" time period in when they typically fall each year, thanks!!

I am addicted to my deer cams and by the looks of a few of the deer on it they look like some might have dropped them here in Northern NY

I was at a deer hobby farm this weekend.  They have 15 or so dandy bucks.  One of them is injured, and thus dropped his antlers already.  Another one dropped one antler so far.

I personally consider mid February prime time to look.
