Probably anytime you want to get deer used to coming to it. 
 
It's not legal to use bait or a feeder where we are so we take ours down about 60 days prior to the season so there is no question of baiting.  Then we put it up shortly after the end of bow season (late January) and use cameras to get an idea of what made it through the season.
